Basics To Making Money Online

Basics To Making Money Online

Did you ever ask yourself how the big internet marketers and super affiliates manage to be successful in making money online while so many others won’t make a single cent?

No matter if statistics say 99%, 97%, or just 95%, it is a fact that most people who try to make money online fail and just a handful out of 100 people manage to succeed.

Why it is that so many people won’t earn a single dollar?

There are a few reasons why so many people fail online. One of them is that people tend to over complicate things when it come to make money and sell online. They try to pick up as many information as possible on the newest techniques or the latest shiny objects. But they don’t pay attention that these techniques won’t bring them anywhere, nor do most of the shiny and hyped up products, if they don’t know the basics and get them first straight.

Here are the basics to making money online:

1. Decide for a niche

The easiest way to decide for a niche is to go for something you are interested in and where you have some kind of expertise. I agree with some people saying that expertise isn’t necessary as you can learn anything on the go, it makes your start much easier when you know what you are talking about.

And don’t say that you aren’t an expert in anything. Everybody has some expertise, no matter what. It can be cooking, growing roses or catching fish. There’s something you know better than others and where you can talk about for hours.

Think about the things you are good at, where others ask you for advice, and decide for a related niche.

2. Choose a product

Once you decided for your niche you need to find an affiliate product that sells to promote. There are many online marketplaces where you can find suitable products related to your niche. These can be either digital products like ebooks or software or any kind of tangible products.

Another thing besides that the product is relevant for your chosen niche is the quality of the product. You don’t want to promote products to your audience that you don’t know and that you aren’t 100% confident about.

3. Create a website

The easiest and fastest way to create a website is setting up a blog. For this you don’t need any specific knowledge about PHP, HTML, or CSS.

All you need to do is get a domain name, order your hosting and install WordPress via your cpanel account. WordPress is one of the most used blogging platforms and you can find tons of themes and plugins to use for free.

The following video shows you exactly how to install a WordPress blog, it will only take you a couple of minutes.

4. Drive traffic

Now that you have your website up and running all that is left to do is to promote your content. The more visitors your site can attract the more sales you can make, which is your main target when making money online.

There are two major ways of driving traffic to your website, either free traffic or paid traffic. I would recommend for the beginning, as long as you don’t know your conversion rates, to drive free traffic to your website. Once you know how many sales you make in average per 100 visitors you can also start looking into buying traffic.

Final Thoughts

It isn’t much needed to start make a living on the internet. The most important thing is that you start acting. Stay away from all the shiny objects that promise to make you rich over night and focus on the things that will move your new business to the next level.

Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can. – Arthur Ashe Click To Tweet

It takes 5 minutes to manually install WordPress and a few more minutes to do some tweaking.
A fairie dies somewhere every time someone 1 click installs…
Not to mention leaving your blog open to gremlins.

As for making money – email list. And Focus… Ban the shiny objects, pin down what you are doing and drive that targeted traffic.

I did’t know about the fairies, Jan. However, I agree with you that security is an issue nowadays.

But for someone who is just getting started and doesn’t know a lot about all the things like domain, hosting or FTP, it is much easier to install WordPress via cpanel and take care of the gremlins with installing a security plugin such as iThemes Security for example.

It can fix all the known problems without manual tweaking that most newbies don’t know about.

Wow Jan, I can’t believe you’ve got me thinking about the poor fairies now!

      Torsten,

I’ve been all to guilty with the shiny objects, it’s actually taken me about 3 years to go cold turkey and actually concentrate on a niche!

Also, great advice for anyone who hasn’t done so yet to start a blog. It’s so easy to do and also gets you in the mood for a very important part of this type of work, writing!

      Jan,

      not Gremlins as well!

      Cheers

I am also worried now, that the tooth fairy won’t come to my daughter anymore, Jon.

But at least I took care of the gremlins in the post about Must Have WordPress Plugins.

As for the blog, I agree with you. Starting a blog gets you used to writing and with more and more practice also the writing skills will improve.

This will help with everything, not only blogging. Just think about product creation, articles, press releases and so on.

        Cheers,

    Hi Torsten

Yes, the bright shiny objects have been my downfall for years. But having seen no results from the BSOs I am focusing on focus!

Haha – did you just notice that BS in BSOs? How true.

      Hi Joy,

I think we all went through this one time or another. Luckily we discovered that those BSOs won’t bring us anywhere and the only way to achieve something is having a goal, set up a plan and take action. And as you stay, stay focused!

      Have a wonderful day,

      Hi Swapnadip,

      thanks for stopping by.

I think the most important thing is to pay close attention to the products you are promoting. You want to make sure that you are recommending quality products to your audience.

The best way to do this is with recommending only products that you know and used yourself and where you are sure that it will help your readers.

To know a product doesn’t necessarily mean you will need to buy it. You can often have a review copy from the product owner.

I have written a bit more about it here.

      Have a nice day,
